Cheltenham Festival Day 3: Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle

The Pertemps Final, a National Hunt hurdle race, is part of the annual events of the Cheltenham Festival. The twelve-hurdle race is held over nearly three miles on Cheltenham’s New Course. As a handicapped race, it features an interestingly levelled field.

Despite being a Grade 3 event, the Pertemps Final is quite popular with punters, as are all Cheltenham Festival races. The race was first established in 1974, replacing the George Duller Handicap Hurdle. First sponsored by the Coral gambling consortium, it was then named the Coral Golden Hurdle Final. Several qualifier races are held throughout the year.

Pertemps Final: Tips and Predictions

Note: the predictions below refer to the 2021 running of this race – preview will be updated closer to the beginning of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival.

Ireland has dominated this event in recent times, winning the last five Pertemps Finals. The Bosses Oscar (Denise Foster) Dandy Mag (Willie Mullins), Mrs Milner (Paul Nolan) and Anything Will Do (Joseph O’Brien) are amongst the raiding contingent and each has claims but British hopes are equally strong and COME ON TEDDY earns the call.

He was behind re-opposing Imperial Alcazar when third at Warwick in January but is 8lb better off a result and should have more offer. He was impressive when scoring a C&D handicap success in December.

David Pipe’s improving Brinkley and Southfield Harvest for Paul Nicholls are also worthy contenders.
