Runners and riders at the Sefton Novices' Hurdle in 2019.

The Doom Bar Sefton Novices’ Hurdle is one of the more recently established events at the annual Grand National meeting. Held every April at Aintree since 1988 (except for last year), this National Hunt hurdle race is one of a few different events at the meeting geared primarily towards novice hurdlers.

Initially, the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle was a Grade Two race known as the White Satin Novices’ Hurdle. It was not given its present name until 1993, receiving the upgrade to Grade One two years later.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle last year, but this year it’s scheduled to go ahead. That means everyone will have the chance to place a few bets and enjoy.

Doom Bar Sefton Novices’ Hurdle: Tips, Predictions and Previews

Note: the tips below refer to the 2021 Grand National Festival; updated previews will be available on the week of the 2022 Festival.

He was no match for the Irish in the Ballymore last month at Cheltenham but BRAVEMANSGAME ran into a superb prospect at the Festival in Bob Olinger and his third-place finish was a good effort. The increased distance here looks a positive for Paul Nicholls’ Challow winner and he can gain his second Grade 1 of the season. Albert Bartlett placed pair Oscar Elite and Streets Of Doyen should harbour similar claims but respect is very much due for Kempton’s Dovecot winner Cape Gentleman. Emmet Mullins is gaining quite a reputation for his placement and he’s secured Rachael Blackmore for the mount here.
