Day 3 of the York Ebor Festival sees the return of the legend Stradivarius (6/5) who will try and regain the Lonsdale Cup which he won in 2018 and 2019. It will not be easy for him today as he is now a seven-year-old up against the younger five-year-old, Trueshan, who looks like he will be a star at these longer trips over the next couple of years. Stradivarius is trained by the main man John Gosden and his son Thady, and with Frankie on-board you know he will be 100% fit for the big race. Hollie Doyle just keeps getting better and better and I’m convinced she will come out on top today on Trueshan (5/2) for Alan King.
Berkshire Shadow to Get Back to Winning Ways
Berkshire Shadow (10/3) goes in the Gimcrack Stakes and will be hoping to get back to winning ways after his surprise defeat at Glorious Goodwood in the Vintage Stakes. I think he will show he is the best horse in this race, but there are a couple of horses who will give him a serious challenge. Lusail has been in excellent form this season for Richard Hannon and is currently the favourite for the race. At a bigger price I think Vintage Clarets will go very well for Paul Hanagan, he is trained by Richard Fahey who is based just down the road in Malton and he just loves having winners at York. But I’m all over Berkshire Shadow with Oisin Murphy onboard.
Winter Power to Power Home
There will be no Battaash in this year’s Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes as he was retired after his poor run at Glorious Goodwood. Battaash has won the last two running’s of the Nunthorpe Stakes on the Knavesmire and I think the winner this year will be the King Power horse, Winter Power. Trained by Tim Easterby who again is based in the north has been in great form this season and with Winter Power winning a listed race at York last time out. I think now is the time she will get her head in front in a Group 1. The short price favourite on the day will definitely be Golden Pal who has come across the pond with Wesley Ward and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori. Wesley Ward has said that “Golden Pal is probably the best three-year-old I have ever trained.” The other horse at the top market is Suesa who will be ridden by William Buick, she won the King George Qatar Stakes last time out beating Dragon Symbol by 3-lengths.
